When you see the words "GMO vaccine", your first thought may not be "better health". However, did you know that scientists have come up with a way to make GMO vaccines that could produce and artificial immunity against HIV, SARS, Ebola, and other diseases? Click here

A more natural way to treat or prevent some diseases may lay with olive oil. If you didn't already know that olive oil is one of the more healthy here

Speaking of olives, olive trees may be able to survive without water for long periods, but many plants and animals cannot. Did you know that Arizona and Nevada will apparently be joining California with water shortages in 2016? Click here

Water shortages for Arizona, Nevada and California to begin in 2016 as Lake Mead reservoir plummets
If warning after warning is issued but no one listens, does that make it any less dire? That's a great question and one the nation will soon discover the answer to, if the drought situation in the West continues to worsen. For more than a year NaturalNews and other outlets have been warning of the dire consequences that could befall civil society if drought-related water shortages continue or worsen. We've already reported, for instance, that increasingly desperate Californians have been stealing water already, both from city hydrants and from rural farms. We've also reported that residents in North Texas have had to resort to drinking water from sewage because of the drought there. And it's only going to get worse. Now, Nevada is facing "significant possibilities" of major shortages of water if drought on the Colorado River continues into the next two years, says a worrisome forecast delivered recently by a federal government agency.

Something Worth Knowing

This is How Easy it is to Make Your Own Candles
Candle-making has been around for centuries. It is an art that has survived the test of time and is still a very popular craft project today. There are a few things to consider when attempting this craft, including the type of candle, type of wax, and the materials to use. Types of Candles First things first. There are three main types of candles: pillar candles, container candles, and votive candles. Pillar candles require hard wax, because they are not formed in a container and are free-standing. Container candles are the most popular type of candles and are the easiest for beginners to make. Votive candles are small in size and are typically placed into a container when burning. They are commonly used at weddings and in places of worship. Types of Wax Before you run out to the nearest craft supply store and buy a giant slab of beeswax, you should consider the type of candles you are making and also the type of wax that would best benefit your project. There are several types of wax to consider when making your own candles. Some are more popular than others for different reasons. Candle wax comes in different blends and melting points; you should also think about factors like price, allergies, and burning time.

Burner phone? There's an app for that, and it's earning millions of dollars
Back in the spring of 2012, Greg Cohn and his co-founder Will Carter were working on a product that would let others know when they were available for a phone call. One of the features generated a temporary number that you could share on social media so anyone could reach you. They jokingly called it the Burner feature, an homage to the throwaway phones made famous by drug dealers on HBO’s The Wire. But they quickly realized that this feature was far and away the most popular part of their service, so they focused on that. They created an app called Burner that allows users to quickly and easily create new numbers, which they can use to send and receive calls and text messages, then destroy them at any time. While the initial thesis was that people would want to create and quickly dispose of these numbers, over the last two years Burner’s internal data has told a very different story. "It’s not a one time, one and done thing," says Cohn. Instead of drug dealers looking to hide their activity, many of their customers were lawyers, cops, teachers, and taxi drivers looking to create some separation between their personal and professional lives without the hassle or expense of having a second phone.

Olive oil antioxidant naturally kills all cancer cells tested within an hour
The major antioxidant compound found in olive oil is capable of killing cancer cells in less than an hour while leaving healthy cells unharmed, according to a study conducted by researchers from Rutgers University and Hunter College and published in the journal Molecular & Cellular Oncology. The researchers hope that this may lead to a targeted cancer therapy based on this molecule. "The Mediterranean diet is known to be associated with a reduced risk of many different kinds of cancer," researcher Paul Breslin said. "Whereas the entire diet likely has many benefits, this study points directly to the olive oil phenolic, oleocanthal, as playing an especially important role in these observations. As more people turn to the Mediterranean diet as a healthy life option, oleocanthal is growing in its significance as a key active component of this diet."

Makes "all hell break loose" for cancer
Many healthful plant compounds are known to induce apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in cancer cells by targeting a specific protein that controls the process. Yet apoptosis typically takes between 16 and 24 hours to complete, and prior studies had shown that cancer cells exposed to oleocanthal died within 30 to 60 minutes of exposure. The oleocanthal was acting much too fast, suggesting some mechanism other than apoptosis.

So Roundup “probably” causes cancer. This means what, exactly?
If your circle of friends and acquaintances is anything like mine, you’ve already heard by now that the World Health Organization just classified glyphosate — the active ingredient in the herbicide Roundup — as a probable carcinogen. The WHO cancer agency also added two other pesticides, malathion and diazinon, to this “probable” category. That has received less press coverage because they, unlike glyphosate, are not associated with genetically engineered crops, always a lightning rod. There was a big increase in the use of glyphosate when farmers switched over to GE glyphosate-resistant crops. So what does this new classification mean? There’s a great, er, roundup of reactions from scientific experts in the field here. That comes from the Science Media Center, which does yeoman’s work in taking controversial headlines and placing them within the context of scientific knowledge. I highly recommend taking a look at that.

New GMO vaccines alter human DNA to produce artificial immunity
Recently, scientists took a huge leap forward in developing a radically new form of immunization. Researchers from the Scripps Research Institute reported in February that they had successfully used a new form of gene therapy to induce monkeys to produce an antibody that deactivates HIV. This new therapy is fundamentally different from vaccination, which consists of introducing small amounts of infectious material into the body to induce it to produce its own antibodies. In immunoprophylaxis by gene transfer (IGT), scientists instead hope to modify the DNA of patients to enable them to produce entirely new antibodies. "The reality is we are touching third rails, and so it's going to take some explanation," said David Baltimore of the California Institute of Technology, a Nobel Prize recipient, virologist and IGT researcher.

Bypassing the immune system
In IGT, scientists first identify the genes (in humans or other animals) that produce powerful antibodies against hard-to-treat diseases. They then create artificial versions of these genes and insert them into viruses. These viruses are then injected into patient (usually into muscle tissue), where they transfer the genetically engineered DNA to the muscle cells.

The Radioactive Man Who Returned To Fukushima To Feed The Animals That Everyone Else Left Behind

The untold human suffering and property damage left in the wake of the Fukushima disaster in Japan has been well-documented, but there’s another population that suffered greatly that few have discussed – the animals left behind in the radioactive exclusion zone. One man, however, hasn’t forgotten – 55-year-old Naoto Matsumura, a former construction worker who lives in the zone to care for its four-legged survivors.
