What I Found in Those Food Storage Buckets from 1989
(and How That 1989 Popcorn Popped)
By Teri Simpson of Optimum Preparedness

I started storing food (in a serious way) in 1989 when going to the Ramtha School of Enlightenment. We were told we would be wise to "Store food" and that we should target 2 years worth. Of course it made sense to store food. Now, I have never been one of those people that gingerly dip their toe in the water to see if it's cold or not. Me, I jump in with both feet. And because there was a group of us taking on this task, I got to get a really diverse assortment of grains, beans, peas, pasta, nuts, fruits, seeds, spices and some things that were not really meant for long term storage. Others were probably doing the same thing.

I'd add to the collection of buckets every so often, so there are lots of buckets from 1989, a few buckets from the early 90's, the mid 90's and of course some in 1999 because who knew WHAT was going to happen with Y2K – yikes! (Took me years to eat the canned green beans and soup that I bought in '99 hehehe. I think I finally gave the last couple of cases of corn to a friend around 2005 since I rarely eat corn.)

Here we are approaching December 21, 2012. That's an even BIGGER bugaboo date than 12/31/1999. I wondered (well, I had been wondering for a few years) how in the heck that food was that I put into buckets in 1989. No sense in continuing to store stuff that was no good. But you don't want to throw something away that IS good (especially if you have MY packrat genes from good ol' Grandma Simpson who lived through the Depression).

So I started going through the buckets. Mind you, the buckets had all been stored in pretty good conditions: you store buckets in a basement were it doesn't get blistering hot in the summer or freezing cold in the winter and that increases the shelf life of your food. And the heat is a bigger enemy of stored food than cold is when you are looking at dried foods like grains, beans, fruits and veggies.

Protect Yourself and Your Family—Be Prepared

It’s time. I have been endeavoring to share what I have been learning about the powerful natural medicine in essential oils through my weekly columns in MastersConnection. As the winter solstice approaches, many people have been asking me to tell them exactly what they need to be prepared to use essential oils to care for their family’s healthcare needs in chaotic times.

We saw our friends on the East Coast get hit by a natural disaster that swept away homes, blew down the power lines and left them in shock and dismay. The best we can do now is to take heed and prepare wherever we are in the world.

Medicine is a very important part of preparation. Essential Oils are especially well-suited to emergency preparedness because of their stable shelf life and ease of use. They have no harmful side-effects and you don’t have to be an expert to use them and help others in pain or suffering. My 9 year old granddaughter goes to the oil box for Melaleuca to treat her skinned knees. She knows that Lavender combined with Melaleuca will take the sting and the swelling out of a bug bite or a sunburn, Peppermint for a fever or a headache, DigestZen for a tummy ache and Breathe for a stuffy nose.

MastersConnection reaches readers all over the world and all time zones. To make it easier to learn which oils to use for which medical condition and what oils you will want in your first aid kit, I have prepared a 35 minute video education class. The link is provided below. Also below is a link to a handout of the slides from the class. You might like to print them out and use them to take notes while you watch. I hope you find it helpful in your preparation planning.

Something Worth Knowing

Five Different Shelf Life Studies: Two on Canned Food and Three on Dry Food

Canned Food Study One

A Food and Drug Administration Article about a shelf life test that was conducted on 100-year old canned foods that were retrieved from the Steamboat Bertrand.

Following is a brief summary of a very small portion of the above article:
"Among the canned food items retrieved from the Bertrand in 1968 were brandied peaches, oysters, plum tomatoes, honey, and mixed vegetables. In 1974, chemists at the National Food Processors Association (NFPA) analyzed the products for bacterial contamination and nutrient value. Although the food had lost its fresh smell and appearance, the NFPA chemists detected no microbial growth and determined that the foods were as safe to eat as they had been when canned more than 100 years earlier. The nutrient values varied depending upon the product and nutrient. NFPA chemists Janet Dudek and Edgar Elkins report that significant amounts of vitamins C and A were lost. But protein levels remained high, and all calcium values 'were comparable to today's products.'"

Monsanto's 5 Most Dubious Contributions to the Planet
From Styrofoam to Agent Orange, you just might be surprised.
Oh, Monsanto, you sly dog. You keep trying to make us believe you are "committed to sustainable agriculture" with your canny advertisements on American Public Media, even as you force-feed farmers your lab-grown Frankenseeds that expire every year (which are, let's be honest, opposite of sustainable). But we shouldn't be surprised by the mixed message, should we? After all, you've been doing this for decades. With long-running corporate sponsorships like Disney's Tomorrowland building reserves of goodwill as you spray us with DDT, it's clear you're entitled to send out products into the world with nary an environmental or health concern—just as long as you spend a bit of that hard-earned cash convincing us otherwise.

Chemtrails and Horizontal Gene Transfer – The GMO Connection
Barbara H. Peterson

Farm Wars

This is not a sci-fi fantasy, it is real. Our personal DNA and the DNA of just about every living organism on the planet is being changed in ways that we cannot even imagine through the process of horizontal or lateral gene transfer, courtesy of the biotechnology industry and geo-engineering programs.

Horizontal gene transfer is the transfer of genetic material from one organism to another organism that is not its offspring; this is most common among bacteria. Definition found here

Horizontal gene transfer is used in laboratory-based genetic engineering, and also occurs naturally, within the confines of nature. When nature is in charge, certain things simply do not happen such as a tomato crossing with a fish. In the laboratory, using artificial horizontal gene transfer, anything goes.

FDA Expands Irradiation Uses for Meat and Poultry
Meat and poultry producers who use ionized radiation to kill pathogens in product now have expanded options, thanks to two rules published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Friday. The first rule allows for the irradiation of unrefrigerated raw meat. Previously, only refrigerated or frozen meats could be irradiated, but FDA says research on the meat treated at higher temperatures shows that this application poses no health risk. The second rule ups the dose of absorbed ionizing radiation in poultry from 3.0 kilogray (kGy) to 4.5 kGy. While this higher dose is already allowed in meat and molluscan shellfish, the limit had remained at 3.0 kGy for poultry until now.

A World In Denial: Underestimating Japan’s Nuclear Disaster

cognitive dissonance - noun -

Mental conflict that occurs when beliefs or assumptions are contradicted by new information.... when confronted with challenging new information, most people seek to preserve their current understanding of the world by rejecting, explaining away, or avoiding the new information or by convincing themselves that no conflict really exists.

I see dead people.... Walking around like regular people. They don't see each other. They only see what they want to see. They don't know they're dead.  - The Sixth Sense

I’m only human on the inside. - The Pretenders

Every day, very sad and disturbing news about the Fukushima nuclear disaster reveals itself. People in Fukushima are suffering the brunt of this nightmare. But it is also a fact of life that Tokyo drinking water is irradiated. It is not by much, but as we will see even a little bit of radiation can cause harm.

NOAA scientists on high alert for 2013 solar maximum
NOAA scientists are on high alert as the Sun enters a period of solar maximum over the next 14 months during which we will see a burst of activity that could have catastrophic effects on global power grids and communications systems. A solar maximum is a normal period of intense or heightened solar activity in the 11 year solar cycle of the Sun. During a solar maximum, large numbers of sunspots appear and the Sun's power output increases with a significant upsurge in the incidence and power of solar flares. One of the best known examples of a major solar flare that affected communications system was the solar storm of 1859, known as the Carrington Event, a major solar eruption that struck the Earth with such intensity that the northern lights could be seen as far south as Rome, approximately 42° north of the equator.

3MIN News December 7

Extreme Drought Continues, Could be Most Extreme Weather Event This Year
It's been overshadowed by other extreme weather events recently, but the extreme drought that plagued the U.S. this summer continues. In fact, according to the Drought Monitor, conditions have worsened slightly across the country. The extreme drought is likely to extend through February and could be the most extreme weather event in the U.S. this year, which is saying a lot in a year that saw a superstorm flood large swaths of New York City and knock out power to millions of people. Beyond the millions of dollars in lost agricultural yield, the extreme drought threatens the Ogallala Aquifer, the single most important water source in the High Plains regions.  A commentator on Climate Progress pointed out that the areas that are suffering from the most severe drought overlap with the Aquifer. As shown below, the overlap is substantial.

The Meaning of the Mayan Calendar End Date Within The Context of Modern Astrology
By William Stickevers
The Mayan Long Count Calendar was developed around 200 B.C.E. in Izapa, Mexico, using data calculated over hundreds of years. The Mayan Long Count start date according to scholars began on August 11th, 3114 B.C.E and the target end date will be on December 21st, 2012. The Mayan Long Count End Date ( in the Long Count) represents the rare alignment of the Winter Solstice Sun crossing through the Galactic Equator along the dark band of stars at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy, and the Ecliptic (the path of the Sun) that will occur exactly 11:11 AM Greenwich Mean Time. Our solar system, the Sol System, is located in our galaxy, the Milky Way, at the outer reaches of the spiral arm, the Orion arm, and is approximately 26,000 light-years from the center. As the Solar System orbits the Milky Way galaxy it follows a path that travels above and below the equator of the galactic plane.

Living vs The Dreadful Hoax

Sacred Economics

Sacred Economics traces the history of money from ancient gift economies to modern capitalism, revealing how the money system has contributed to alienation, competition, and scarcity, destroyed community, and necessitated endless growth. Today, these trends have reached their extreme – but in the wake of their collapse, we may find great opportunity to transition to a more connected, ecological, and sustainable way of being.
