When power outages occur (which happens frequently in the Northwest, where I live) even the gas stations do not operate -- sometimes for days at a time -- because the pumps require electricity. I have learned what it is like to live in the absence of simple things at home, like lighting, phones, my beloved laptop, and enjoying music to accompany my daily tasks and soothe the spirit.
