Expectations

People will put up with anything. You can see it here and around the world. When people have no expectations of anything better, they settle for what they have.

What causes revolution, cultural or social revolution? What caused us to all of a sudden accept the civil rights act, women voting, the end of slavery, gay marriage?  When expectations diverge from reality by a certain percentage that's when you get real change.  We just need to wake up and realize we can do better for our people. After all, we are the richest country in the world.

The key is to stop trying to fight a rear action against what we don't like and start to redefine our expectations.  We live in a country where everyone should have free education and trade schools, this country is rich enough for that; we live in a country where everyone should have healthcare, we are certainly rich enough for that; we can have better Social Security for our seniors, we are rich enough for that; we live in a country where no one should be homeless, where dental care and mental care shouldn't be separate.  Let's start establishing high expectations, which are high by our standards, but which are normal in Canada, in Europe and many countries around the world.
