How about agreeing to disagree?

Often in life, people seem not to be able to see eye to eye, no matter the issue at hand. It seems to be one of the signs of the times we are currently living in, but, by all means, this should not mean that we should give in to these omni-prevalent tendencies. Today’s world is slowly but surely becoming more and more polarized. As a result, people’s opinions on whatever topic at hand, could not be further apart. Needless to say that conflicts will emerge in such a situation. Mostly, people find that conflicts need to be resolved in a peaceful manner. However, nowadays the world is anything but peaceful. When I state this, I mean to say that we can witness this on both a personal level as on a global level. Let us talk about the personal level first. Are individuals able to agree to disagree?

On a personal level

When friends quarrel or have a difference of opinion on a social or political viewpoint, this can lead to hurtful situations. However, having different opinions does not necessarily mean that the reason people became friends will get lost in space, as if the friendship never existed. In my view, friendships are not necessarily based on opinions. People tend to become friends, because of a mutual attraction. You could call this a form of chemistry between human beings. People get intrigued by one another, and subsequently they become life long friends. Friendships are bases upon who you are on a personal and spiritual level. Friendships are hardly ever based upon rationality, and that is the exact reason why friendships are such unbreakable bonds. In my view, real friends can afford to agree to disagree on something. In theory, an alt-wing can be friends with an extreme left wing libertarian, as long as they experience some form of common ground for their friendship. Now, in the Emerald Tablet, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerald_Tablet it was first stipulated that ‘That which is below is like that which is above & that which is above is like that which is below to do the miracles of one only thing.’ This brings us to the global level.

On a global level

Let us now take a look at a larger scale. Sadly, enough, global conflicts have become common good in this day and age. Yet everyone agrees that the world is in a dark place. Action has to be taken, time is running out. At the same time that I say this, I become fully aware of the fact that life on Earth is currently threatened by multiple undeniable dangers. From global warming and natural disasters to the growing globalization of wars and armed conflicts, we cannot but conclude that life on Earth in endangered both short term and long term. Personally, I do not believe that it is too late to actually save the planet. We live on a beautiful planet, that certainly deserves to be saved. After all, ‘That which is below is like that which is above & that which is above is like that which is below to do the miracles of one only thing.’. Therefore, at least in my view, it should be possible to bond on a global, spiritual and emotional scale and leave our rational differences behind. Let us agree to disagree, at least, to save the world and mankind as a species.
