Recipe of the Week - Popped Wheat

Do you ever wonder what you are going to do with all of the wheat that you have stored? Here I a great way to use those whole wheat berries, check out this fun snack. It is also great sprinkled on salads or a topping on baked potatoes.

Ingredients:
1 Cup Whole Wheat Berries
2 Cups Water
3 Tablespoons Oil
Seasonings (see below)

Directions:
Soak whole wheat berries in the water in a medium bowl overnight, then the next morning, bring to boil 4 cups water and wheat berries and cook for 30 minutes. Drain very well. In a heavy skillet (I like to use cast iron) heat oil to about 350 Degrees, fry wheat in small portion until golden, about 30-45 second, stirring occasionally. You will actually hear a bit of popping sound, then remove popped wheat and drain on a plate with a paper towel, sprinkle with your choose of seasoning.

Seasoning suggestions:
Salt, pepper, garlic, barbecue seasoning, ranch dressing, parmesan cheese and garlic granules, Italian seasoning and salt, cheese blend powder, basil garlic and salt, taco seasoning mix, spaghetti seasoning, brown sugar. Use your imagination. You can even mix with dried fruit, nuts and chocolate chips for a trail mix if using brown sugar. Cool Completely and store in a glass jar with a tight fitting lid until gone – if it lasts that long.
